Avoid Sugar Temptations with a Fun Craft!
We all had fun making these Birdseed Easter Eggs this past weekend. This is a great alternative to dying hardboiled eggs and an attractive way to steer the kiddos aways from chocolate candy rich temptations that run parallel with the holiday. We have been having fun gifting these in egg cartons tied with a bow or cellophane bags with paper nesting material. Did I mention, the birds are psyched too?
Ingredients:
Non Stick Cooking Spray; 8 1/2 cups Bird Seed; 1/3 cup Gelatin; 1 1/2 cups Hot Water; 3 dozen +/- plastic eggs
Preparation:
Coat the inside of plastic egg shells with Non Stick Cooking Spray. Dissolve the gelatin in the hot water. In a large bowl, combine the bird seed with the gelatin/water mixture. Using a small spoon and your fingers, pack the shells tightly with the mixture. Refrigerate for 3 hours to allow gelatin to firm. Remove from shells carefully and allow to dry in paper egg cartons in a warm and dry location for a day or two.
